What is Astrocartography?

Location astrology, also called astrocartography, has become something of a buzzword. There are different types of astrocartography tools we use to navigate your energy in different locations. The 4 main types are the Astrocartography Map, Relocation chart, local space, and geodetic map. The most frequently used online is the astrocartography map. In simple terms, the Astrocartography Map is when your natal chart is converted on the world map creating longitudinal planetary lines of energy. Each planet will have 4 lines, or axis, crossing the map. These are the same axis in the natal chart. The AC, IC, DC and MC. Each line represents the energy of that planet in the life area of that axis. For example, if your Venus DC line runs through the city where you live, you would have Venus’s relationship energy in that city. The closer you live to that line, the stronger the planetary energy, up to 600 miles.
You will hear “you need to live on your Jupiter, Venus, or sun” lines or “these 3 lines will change your life.” But this is a gross oversimplification of astrocartography. That is the same as saying you are only your Sun sign and ignoring the rest of your natal chart. If we want a better representation of what a new location will bring for you, we need to look at how it affects your entire chart. Because in the end, you are still you. No matter where you move. Your soul is unique with a combination of strengths and struggles. You just want those gifts and skills to shine.
Let us say you moved directly on your Mercury IC line. Mercury is the planet of communication and the IC is the axis of home and family. Most people overlook mercury as neutral. But I have lived on this line while away at medical school. What that created was a home filled with like-minded friends with a strong sense of belonging, where we studied and grew together. A most fulfilling and joyous time in my life.
Another example of location astrology is using relocation charts. Your natal chart is made into 12 sections we call houses. Each house represents a different focus of your life. Areas like identity, finance, home, love, work, etc. When you move to a new location, your planets spin around the chart to a new section. This creates a new chart for you. So, let us say your sun, which represents your ego, is in your 2nd house of financial affairs in your natal chart. Here your focus is making a good income. But upon relocation, it moves to the 4th house of home and family. What change in focus do you think the ego will have? It could be that your identity now revolves around family, ancestral roots, and your house. Or the shift could be that you begin to work from home or work in the family business.
Is there a place you've always dreamed of living? This could be your soul's desire for growth in a certain area of your life.
If you feel restless but unsure where to go, what in your life do you want to focus on? What is the priority in your life at this moment? It varies for everyone. It could be pursuing an education, spirituality, romance, or starting a family. You may want to focus on career or perhaps retire. What are your skills? Your struggles?
