DIVISIONS OF THE NATAL CHART
AREA OF LIFE IN THE NATAL CHART
The natal chart has 12 sections or areas equally divided. Each of these sections is 30 degs totaling 360, a circle. It represents a 2D version of the sky when we are born.
The horizontal axis is the Ascendant/Descendant axis. The Ascendant represents our relationship with ourselves vs the descendant being our relationship with others.
The vertical axis is the Medium Coeli/ MC Axis, commonly called the Midheaven, and Imum Coeli /IC axis. The Midheaven is the highest point of the chart, when the sun is at the highest point in the sky. It represents how the world perceives us, our public image. The IC Axis is the bottom of the chart, our most private area of life. It represents our ancestors, our roots, our home and family.
The Ascendant/Descendant axis is the horizon, which the sun rises and sets as it circles around the chart. The top half is the southern hemisphere- day time, the bottom half is the northern hemisphere- night time.
The northern/bottom half represents people who are more private and introspective. The southern/top hemisphere represents people who are more social and extroverted.
The midheaven MC /IC Axis divides the chart into East (left side) and West (right side). The east side houses 10-12, 1-3 represents our ability to be independent, self reliant, and taking action. The west side, houses 4-9, represents our ability to collaborate, our dependence on others, boundaries, relationships, teamwork, and receptivity.
The chart is also broken down into 4 quadrants.
The 1st quadrant houses 1,2,3 represent the journey with our personal identity.
The 2nd quadrant houses 4,5,6 represent our journey with personal expression.
The 3rd quadrant houses 7,8,9 represent our journey with our social identity,
The 4th quadrant houses 10,11,12 represent our journey with our social expression.
Lastly, we break the houses into Angular, Succedent, Cadent. The Angular houses are 1,4,7,10. They are considered the most powerful and are cardinal. They represent how we take action, our identity, and major life events. The Succedent houses are 2,5,8,11. They are fixed modality and represent progression from the angular houses and how we work with the given resources. The last set are the cadent houses 3,6,9,12. They are mutable modality and represent how we make adjustments for the next new cycle (angular).
Perspective
The natal chart is static view of the sky at the precise time you were born. But the sky, and therefore the transits ,are continually in motion. The planetary energies are ever changing. Our chart is a map, a guide, an outline for us to use to see our past, present, and future. It gives general information on areas of your life. It is still in our free will to navigate the specifics. The chart can show you your potential or areas that need work. It is up to you to put that work in to succeed.
